Use bao with Claude, ChatGPT, and Codex

Quick answer
bao connects to AI assistants through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Add https://mybao.baby/api/mcp as a connector, sign in with your bao account, and approve access. Then ask things like “log a 4 oz bottle just now” or “how long did she nap today?” It's free and off until you connect it.
What you can ask
- “Log a wet diaper and a 20-minute feed on the left side.”
- “Start a sleep timer for Mia.” … “She's awake, stop it.”
- “How did potty training go while she was with the nanny today?”
- “Log that he tried mashed avocado for the first time.”
- “That last bottle was 5 oz, not 4. Fix it.”
- “Summarize the last three nights of sleep for our pediatrician visit.”
Connect your assistant
Every assistant uses the same URL. You'll be sent to bao to sign in and approve access; the assistant never sees your sign-in code.
Claude (web, desktop, and mobile)
- Open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Name it bao and paste
https://mybao.baby/api/mcp. - Select Connect, sign in to bao, and approve access.
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http bao https://mybao.baby/api/mcpThen run /mcp in Claude Code and choose bao to sign in.
Codex
codex mcp add bao --url https://mybao.baby/api/mcp
codex mcp login baoChatGPT
Add bao as a connector (app) in ChatGPT's settings using the same URL, then sign in to bao when prompted. Custom connectors may need developer mode turned on, depending on your ChatGPT plan.
Other MCP tools
For tools that can't sign in with OAuth, create an API key in bao under Settings → AI Connections and send it as a bearer token. Treat it like a password.
What the connector can do
bao exposes five tools. Read tools never change anything. The timer tool only runs live timers. The events tool adds new entries and can also correct or delete existing ones when you ask; because it can change or delete data, most assistants ask for your approval before it runs.
| Tool | What it does | Access |
|---|---|---|
| List children list_baos | Lists the children you can see, with their IDs. Assistants call this first. | Read |
| Get event history get_history | Reads logged events (feeds, sleep, diapers, potty, growth…) for a time range. | Read |
| Get child profile get_child_profile | Reads a child’s name, birth date, and latest growth measurements. | Read |
| Manage baby events manage_events | Logs feeds, sleep, diapers, potty trips, solid foods, growth measurements, and more, and corrects or deletes past entries when you ask. Handles up to 100 changes at once and can preview them without saving. | Write |
| Manage a live feed or sleep timer manage_timer | Starts, stops, or switches sides on a running timer, or reports what’s running. | Write |
Permissions and privacy
- Same access as you. The assistant acts as your bao account and sees only the children you can see in the app. View-only observers can read but not log, edit, or delete.
- You approve every connection. Connecting uses OAuth: bao shows a consent screen, and you can disconnect at any time.
- Your data stays yours. bao never sells your data or uses it to train AI models. See our privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions
Does connecting an AI assistant cost anything?
No. The bao connector is free, like the rest of bao. You only need a bao account and an AI assistant that supports MCP connectors, such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Codex.
Does bao train AI models on my data or share it with AI companies?
No. bao never sells your data or uses it to train models. Your assistant can read your logs only after you connect it and approve access, and only while you keep it connected. What the assistant does with the conversation is covered by that assistant’s own privacy policy.
Can my assistant delete or change past entries?
Yes, when you ask it to. The connector can correct an entry (say, a bottle that was 5 oz, not 4) or delete one. bao labels this tool as one that can change or delete data, so most assistants ask you to approve it before it runs, unless you have chosen to always allow it. Your assistant can also preview a change without saving anything. Deleted entries can’t be recovered, and editing or deleting a potty entry doesn’t take back stickers already earned. You can make the same changes in the bao app.
What can a view-only observer do with an assistant?
Observers can ask questions about the child they were invited to see, but their assistant can’t log, edit, or delete events or run timers, matching what they can do in the app.
How do I disconnect?
Remove the bao connector in your assistant’s settings. If you created an API key for a tool like Claude Code or Cursor, revoke it in bao under Settings → AI Connections.
